The AIGA LINK Program is a fantastic, free, non-profit program for high school students that's been changing the lives of Seattle area teens since 1994. We connect young people with a different working artist each month, make finished portfolio pieces using different mediums, have a gallery show of our students' work at the end of the year, and award scholarships to our graduating seniors.
Our mission is a part of the Coyne Foundation's vision to support students whose communities are underrepresented in the arts and design fields to develop portfolios, and provide them with a stronger path to success in visual arts and design careers. We center arts equity in our program development and workshops.
Beyond art, LINK is a way to build confidence and help young people envision themselves after high school as working professionals or college students, benefiting from the many ways that art and design enrich our lives.
Happy you asked! In-workshop mentoring is our most popular role for volunteers. Several volunteers join each workshop to hang out and create along with students, and provide support and encouragement along the way.
Volunteers also stretch their legs and build skills as workshop leads and co-leads to connect with guest artists and plan workshops.
Behind the scenes, volunteers help keep the program running smoothly, too. These roles include student recruitment, newsletter production, scholarship coordination, website maintenance, and more (see the full list under "Volunteer Roles" below). And all of us celebrate each other and the beauty of teaching and learning about art and design!
